He couldn’t stand it any longer. The cottage was empty and he had no idea where Bella was, to say the situation had put a strain on things was the understatement of the decade. Edward knew it was long overdue, but even as his shaky pale hand reached for the door handle of Nessie’s room he still expected to see her there. Although faint her scent was still there, he didn’t really need to breath as it was engrained into his mind. It saddened him that with every passing moment he was there his little girl wasn’t. The moment he took a breath more of her disappeared and maybe then he would have to face the fact that Renesmee wasn’t coming home any time soon. He lay in the middle of the floor, choosing to stay immobile, lying on the floor with his arms and legs spread out. If a human would have happened to walk in and see him, they’d probably scream upon seeing the white, unmoving body, and think that he was dead. He lost track of time as he lay still wishing that Renensmee would come bounding in, happy again.
The hour’s ticked by and eventually Edward had to move, lacking the ability to cry especially when he was by himself only furthered the need to go and find Renesmee. Leaving her room exactly as it was Edward didn’t leave a note this time, Alice would see where he was going. Even he didn’t know where that was, all Edward wanted was to run as fast and hard as he could for as long as it took. He decided upon a familiar route which took him towards Canada. He remembered a time when Renesmee and Bella had taken a trip up their, they had gone as a family, the very family that no longer existed anymore. Edward knew that he couldn’t be mad at Renesmee, not for more than five minutes. She had a strange effect on him, taking away the anger or annoyance he might once have had. And after three years Jacob was the only one on his hit list. How could Jacob have done that to his daughter? A question that never left his mind, even as the trees threw branches his way, the broke just as easily as he hope Renemsee would come back.
The one thing he regretted more than anything was not saying goodbye, he couldn’t even remember the last image he had of Renesmee. He was too hell bent on killing Jacob to see what he had done or was doing. His little angel was gone, and instead of the hours that passed in the day it had been days, weeks and then years. He’d never really handled emotions well, least not when it came to family and this time what had been done didn’t seem like it could be repaired. His feet carried him across the border line into Canada and soon it was the side walk that flew beneath his feet. It wasn’t until he had reached a group of people he realised his thirst was becoming an issue. Dodging several crowds Edward found a path back the trees, he wanted to find some higher ground before he thought about hunting. After all a human stumbling across your path when you had your teeth stuck into an animal took a lot of explaining. Something which Edward wasn’t in the right mind to start.
Another hour passed while Edward searched for the perfect hunting spot. His feet seemed to have a mind of their own, as he took off after a young doe. Something that would keep him sane for a little while longer. It was while clearing up his mess Edward caught a scent. Renesmee he thought, his eyes lit up like a little child’s at Christmas, but then he remembered where he had been before he left. Probably his imagination, and again that sense of loss came back. He trudged a few feet more not caring where he was as he sank down against a tree trunk. He had lost the one half of his life that made thing worth doing, and now Bella, well they were as distant as anyone could be. Or so he thought. Neither of them wanted to talk about it, and the thought that Jacob had gone from Bella to their daughter, well that was just… he couldn’t find the right word but Edward didn’t bothered with it anymore. He was content in sitting there, mulling over the time he had with Renensmee and wondering where she was now, and what her child was like. Grandparents he thought, which had to make Carlisle and Esme the youngest great grandparents in the world.

The sudden sputtering of an old car in the distance stirred Bella back to reality. She had been sitting motionlessly for what could have been hours. Her restlessness had taken its toll which is why today she just sat around staring listlessly out the window all the while not really looking. Her mind was dwelling on the past, embellishing her in a mock state of bliss. But like all other good things, this serene moment also had to come to an end.
She brought her head up from the resting position she had it in. Looking around Bella noticed rather quickly that there was no one near. In a moments time she was off the couch and heading out the front door, her destination was the cottage. Before arriving she knew that Edward was not there, his presence could not be felt, and just when Bella thought she could not possibly hurt anymore she was quickly shown how wrong she was.
Even with a lack of presence, Bella entered the cottage all the same hoping for some sort of note or hint, but no such thing was left. Just more space left behind by a missing loved one.
The need to see Edward was growing as time moved on. After spending time alone lost in her thoughts she realized quickly that although Renesmee was gone, she still had Edward. Or at least she did. Now that she was ready to open up, he was no where to be found, but she only assumed that to be what she deserved.
In yet another state of total devastation, Bella slumped into a chair and began once more dwelling on the past, this time her thoughts danced around her and Edward. It reminded her of how strong there bond has always been no matter what, which is why she jumped up from her seat and quickly traced the scent that was still strong, the one that she hoped would lead her to Edward. No matter the distance, she would find him.

Renesmee had left Jacob behind with the baby, letting the two have a little daddy-daughter bonding time that was always very important in a young girl’s life, even as young as she was. She remembered the time, not so long ago, when her and her own father had bonded together around the place she once called home. Those times were grand, but were limited beyond belief for any family with only a short 5 years before she grew into a teen. Most people her age were just starting to go to school, where she was actually pretty much done with school. Renesmee ran through the trees, not as fast as a vampire but much faster than a human could ever run.
She wished she could be with her family but still couldn’t trust her father around Jake and the baby. The baby was half wolf, if he hurt Jacob when he found out what would he do to her? The two were happily living away in Canada with a family of their own and though they could not share their selves with their family members they still had each other, that’s all that mattered. She smiled at the thought of when Cleo started to cry and all it took was a bottle to quiet her up. Of course, she was Jacob’s child. The baby would clearly stop crying when given food to eat, just like her father.
As she was roaming along the trees and boarder lines she noticed some odd scents that she hasn’t picked up on in a long time. She shook herself out of a blissful state and stopped moving, freezing where she stood with a conscious state. Her eyes wandered around the woods like a person searching for a way out, she cautiously moved if she had to. She always had a backup plan for when they left for a new place, there was a bag placed in the closet near the front door with pretty much everything they needed just in case. It was her family’s scent. She could tell that if she was close enough to pick up her fathers, he must be close by. Renesmee’s eyes widened as she took a few steps back. She knew he found her scent and if he already didn’t he would surely find it in the matter of moments. Renesmee started running as fast as she could back toward her home. ”Jacob! Hurry! Get the bag, get the baby! Hurry!” She shouted in front of her, hoping he would hear it and do what he was told before they were caught. Last thing she wanted was another accident. Renesmee was only about halfway to her home at this point, she could not run as fast as a full breed vampire.

No matter how much time passed Bella would never become so distanced from her daughters being that she would not be able to recognize the sweet, lace like sound of her voice. It resounded in her ears like a mocking memory, but she realized quickly that she was not dealing with a painful memory, but instead with the real thing.
Not another word was said by Bella before she dashed off at full speed in the direction of the voice. Edward would surely know what to do without Bella saying anything. Which is why she wasn’t worried about putting every ounce of her being into her running.
Not long after the pursuit had started Bella caught the gentle scent that could only be her daughters. With it was the scent of a certain wolf that Bella still considered her best friend, regardless of the circumstances.
After what very well could have been forever Bella finally caught sight of Renesmee. It was almost unreal. She was still as beautiful as the day she had left, if not more so. If tears were something Bella could produce she would had been in a fit. “Renesmee!”
Bella didn’t bother asking her to stop, because she knew that would only entice her to run faster if she could. So instead Bella got right up next to her, slowing her pace so that she did not pass her daughter. And in one swift but careful motion Bella took Renesmee up into her arms like she was holding a baby. It was the only way she could think of at the time to get her to stop running without hurting her.
Right after snatching her up, Bella came to a complete stop only to put Nessie on her feet. This was not to release her but instead to hug her in an embrace that had been long over due.
All the words Bella had left unsaid the day she left, all the words she had thought of since were swirling around in her mind like a hive of worked up bees. So many things could have been said here that would have made the reunion a heartwarming moment, but instead of a grand piece of poetry all Bella could say was “I’m sorry...please don’t run anymore.”

There were no words to describe how he felt anymore, life hardly seemed to be worth it and the one person who kept him tied to the world he hardly felt close enough to anymore. For what once was, it almost seemed lost in the shadow of events that had a seemingly never ending chaotic twisting. Nothing had the simplicity of being a teenager nor had it the brave face and apparent easy gliding of adulthood. Just one big messy mess. The once happy little house that held so many promises and memories had lost its appeal, only serving as a bad memory. One that was a cold and cruel reminder of what had been lost because of a moment or longer, of pure madness. He had thought Bella’s life was so fragile and breakable as a human, yet even when vampires were involves things could be broken far more painfully than broken bones, bruises and even cuts.
The fact that Renesmee was gone was a punishment equal to no other. The scent tugged on his heart strings, a scent that was both unforgettable, familiar and one that he longed for again. Yet the moment he convinced himself it was truly Renesmee was the day that he lost all sanity. Which from where he was now… could be minutes or days away. However the voice he heard seemed to kick start something with in him, rising from his wallowing the words Jacob, Baby and hurry caused a stir in him that he never thought he would be able to feel. Jacob caused an avalanche of anger and resentment flooding through him yet the word baby. That was different, Edward didn’t know what Renesmee’s daughter was like, his daughters daughter. How could he be mad at or even hold any resentment towards something that was as much a part of Renesmee as she was of him.
The word hurry stuck in his head, he tried to focus on voices. Yet Renesmee’s he wasn’t sure he wanted to hear what she was thinking. His new found frantic pace was stopped for a few seconds as he heard his wife’s angelic voice, she was talking with Renesmee. He was relieved at that but the thought of staying away from them both had him considering wondering back home. He hadn’t given Renesmee any fond memories the day she left, and there was the distinct possibility in his mind that she wouldn’t want to see him. The very person who wanted to kill Jacob now more than ever, yet staying away seemed impossible as he followed the two scents and voices as best he could. He was no tracker but where his daughter and wife were concerned it spurred his awful tracking skills to a moderately bad standing.
With his speed it didn’t take too long for him to circle around at a discreet distance his wife and daughter. As much as he wanted to rush over and embrace them both, never letting either out of his sight again he couldn’t bring himself to break a moment between mother and daughter. He waited a few hundred yards away watching and listening until he could take no more of standing on the side lines. “Renesmee… Bella” He gasped happily trying to keep his composure and stay a respectful distance. “I am so, very sorry.." He whispered, “Might we please talk?” Perhaps a lost request but it was the only thing that he could think of to say, any time spent in the presence of the two women who made his life everything it was, was a request worth making no matter how useless and foolish it sounded.

Cleo hiccuped, and the resulting look of pure surprise and confusion on her tiny little face sent Jacob into howls of laughter, serving only to confuse his baby girl even more. Grinning, Jacob scooped up his daughter and spun her in the air around his head. As always she erupted into peals of bell-like laughter, eyes alight with pure joy. Jacob made a face then fell softly to the floor, taking Cleo gently down with him, electing another squeal of happiness from his child. He let her go and she promptly crawled off to play with his shoes, which just so happened to be bigger than her by about 4 inches. Jacob laid back, resting his head on top of his arm, simply watching his daughter try and fit her head in his shoe. There really was an awful lot of wolf in her, Nessie certainly didn't try that when she was a baby... At least not whilst he was looking.... An unmistakable cry of distress from Nessie instantly roused him from his thoughts. He knew the drill. Get the bag they had packed for emergencies like this. Grab Cleo. And run. Make sure she was safe before worrying about Nessie. Edward wouldn't hurt his own child, not even he could stoop that low. Get Cleo safe, then go see if it was safe for him to get to Nessie. Jacob didn't skip a beat. He could hear several footfalls in the woods behind him, all much faster than a normal human. They were approaching fast. Grabbing the bag from the kitchen bench, Jacob hurried over to Cleo and lifted the playing child to his shoulder. He didn't leave immediately however, instead he stopped by the bedroom. He'd been working on something for the last few days for just this kind of event. Reaching deftly under the bed, Jacob pulled out a something that looked very similar to a baby pouch, just bigger. The idea had come to him, as most ideas do, whilst he was sleeping. If he had to get away with Cleo, how was he meant to hold her in wolf form? Hence he made the pouch. Jacob bolted out the back door, slipping on the straps as he went. The next instant he was a wolf, Cleo happily burying her face into the soft fur on his underbelly, the bag stretched taught across his back. The worried father galloped off into the woods, going as softly as he could. The hurried flight of vampire steps had stopped, obviously whoever they were had caught up with Nessie. Jacob paused. He knew what Nessie wanted him to do, what he should do, but he couldn't just leave her. He had imprinted on her and the thought of leaving her, yet alone leaving her with vampires, literally hurt him. Cleo was drifting off to sleep as most babies do when rocked, and so Jacob risked going to check on Nessie. Going slowly and quietly, careful to stay downwind of the vamps, Jacob padded up a ridge to scout down on the grove where Nessie and the vamps were. As he drew closer he could hear voices, their owners causing his chest to tighten with worry. It would be very dangerous to be caught now by his future parents in law, but he couldn't just leave Nessie. Silently Jacob lay down, shielding Cleo from the ground with his paws, and settled in to watch and listen to the events before him.
